
A boda boda rider was
brutally murdered and robbed of his motorcycle in a tragic incident in Karda
area, Trans Mara in Narok county.
Police and other
riders said the rider was attacked by unknown people on Wednesday and killed
before they escaped with his motorcycle.
According to police,
the deceased, identified as Isaac Onami, 38, was stabbed and slit on the throat.
The police are
investigating the murder and robbery.
The body was moved
to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Police say they have
recorded a rise in incidents where riders are attacked and killed or left with
serious injuries in robberies targeting their motorcycles.
Police advise the
riders to prioritise their safety and cooperate with the attackers.
“Some of these
attackers come ready to die and therefore they have nothing to lose. As a rider, it is prudent to weigh the situation and cooperate for their safety,” a police
officer said.
Some of the stolen
motorcycles are usually refurbished and sold elsewhere, police said.
In Silbwet, Bomet county, a man identified as Leonard Kipkorir died in hospital after he had been attacked by a
mob on claims that he was a thief.
His family told
police he was rushed to ICU, where he succumbed to the injuries.
The body was moved
to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Meanwhile, a man was lynched by a mob in Masongo village, Kisii county after he allegedly assaulted his uncle in a land dispute.
The mob stoned Jason Ratemo, 45, to
death before setting his body on fire.
This is after he had
quarreled and attacked his uncle in the dispute on Wednesday, police said.
The police arrived
at the scene and picked up the body to the mortuary pending investigations and
autopsy.
Police discourage the
trend of mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for
action.
Police statistics show up to three cases of mob lynching are reported daily in a worrying trend.
