Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said that the delay by the government to implement proposals by the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco report) may have led to the Gen Z protests in the country.
Speaking to NTV on Sunday, Raila said the issues that led to the Gen Z protests in 2024 were the same issues the opposition had been raising in 2023.
"If the Nadco report had been implemented earlier, we would not have ended up with the Gen Z protests because the issues the youth were raising were the ones that we were raising the previous year," Raila said.
During the June 2024 protests, young came came out in large numbers to demonstrate against the Finance Bill 2024.
Some of the youth called on Raila to stay at home and let them take the mantle of the struggle for better governance.
Raila on Sunday said he respected the call by the youth to stay at home.
"The youth said that they were out to finish the job, they asked me to stay home and I did respect their wishes and I stayed home and they went further than we had gone," Raila said.
"They stormed Parliament, they even stormed the Judiciary, they were on their way to State House when they were blocked by the forces," Raila said.
