A fire alarm incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) led to the temporary evacuation of Terminal 1C.

In a statement on Sunday, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said the alarm went off at 14:55 hours in the check-in area, prompting action by the airport’s Fire and Rescue team.

KAA said that while the alarm was initially silenced, it reactivated multiple times, raising concerns about the system’s functionality.

“It continued to be reactivated, prompting the temporary shutdown of the fire alarm system for further investigation,” the statement read.

As a safety measure, Terminal 1C was temporarily vacated to ensure the wellbeing of passengers and airport staff. However, KAA confirmed that the disruption did not affect flight operations.

“All flights scheduled for Terminal 1C have been seamlessly relocated to Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B, with no disruptions to flight operations,” the Authority said.

Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for any updates on terminal assignments.

KAA emphasised that operations at JKIA remain stable and that on-site teams are actively working to resolve the issue.

"JKIA’s operations remain normal, and teams are on-site working to resolve the issue. The airport management assures the public that safety remains a top priority and appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders during this time,” the statement added.
