The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has launched a public engagement process to gather views on the proposed Master Plans for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport.

The plans will guide future developments and enhance service delivery at the country’s key aviation hubs.

The authority is conducting a Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) as part of the master planning process.

The assessment is being undertaken by Dar Al Handasah Consultants (Shair and Partners) in collaboration with Geodev (K) Ltd, and is being carried out in compliance with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999.

In a statement, KAA emphasised the importance of community participation.

“Your participation will help shape the future of these airports and ensure that community issues are well understood and taken into account,” the authority said.

The SESA process calls for inclusive stakeholder engagement, bringing together neighbouring communities, organisations, and individuals who may be affected by or have an interest in the development and operations of JKIA and Wilson Airport.

KAA stated that the sessions are intended to inform the public about the scope and intention of the master plans and to invite meaningful contributions that will influence planning outcomes.

The master plans are expected to define a long-term vision for infrastructure development, operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion for both airports.

For the Wilson plan, the meetings will be held in Nairobi West at the Lang’ata DCC Boardroom on July 21, 2025, from 9 am to noon.

Another meeting will be held in South C on July 23 and Langata Mugumoini on July 28 at South C CDF Hall and Chief’s Grounds, respectively, from 9 am to noon.

For the JKIA plan, the meeting will be held at Syokimaau’s Chief’s Camp on July 22 from 9 am to noon, Embakasi Social Hall on July 24 from 9 am to noon and Utawala at Mihang’o Chief’s Office on July 25 from 9 am to noon.
