Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has now said that spending a night in police cells has marked the climax of her political career.

Speaking defiantly on Friday after her release from custody, the MP affirmed she has no regrets and vowed that her experience behind bars would not break her spirit.

“I have reached the climax of my politics by sleeping in the cells. I have never even been booked in the OB before. Anyone who thinks they will silence me should not bother,” Kihara said while addressing the press outside the Milimani court precinct.

Kihara was arrested on Thursday, July 17, following a raid by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

She was taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road before being moved to the cells, where she spent the night.

Dismissing the arrest as political intimidation, Kihara maintained that her work as an elected leader is to fight for the people.

“Even if they put me behind bars for a whole week, I am prepared. My work is to fight for Kenyans, to fight for my people, and what matters is we get justice,” she stated.

The legislator further sent a message to Kenyans, urging them to keep fighting for the country they want.

“Let us not be intimidated. Let us keep speaking out for the country we believe in,” she said.

Her arrest triggered sharp reactions from politicians across the divide.

She was arraigned on Friday in court over incitement-related charges but was released on a personal bond of Sh50,000 shortly after without any charges being formally pressed against her until a determination over the legality of the charges is made.

A battery of lawyers, supporters and leaders led by Wiper Party Kalonzo Musyoka, Former Speaker Justin Muturi and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa were also present to express solidarity with the MP.

The MP expressed gratitude to those who stood with her during her ordeal.

“I thank Kalonzo Musyoka, the lawyers who came, my supporters, and even those who stood with me on social media,” she said.
