The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) held a high-level meeting on July 15, 2025, with Kenya’s State Department for Internal Security and National Administration.
The talks, led by IOM’s new Chief of Mission, John McCue, focused on strengthening border operations and revising Kenya’s visa policy for African nations.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the meeting aimed to sustain close collaboration between IOM and the Kenyan government.
“Our discussions focused on sustaining collaboration, especially in streamlining inter-agency coordination at key border points,” Omollo posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He highlighted IOM’s role in supporting Kenya’s economy and transport sector, citing its contribution to Joint Operations Centres at Mombasa and Kisumu International Airports and the Lunga Lunga land border.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed Kenya is reviewing its visa policy to ease travel for African nationals, while maintaining strict security measures.
“As Kenya revises its visa policy for African countries, security concerns remain a top priority, especially in the fight against illicit trade and illegal migration,” the ministry posted.
It added that the talks also aimed at expanding integrated border management to improve security and operations nationwide.
