Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Julius Bitok has called for the arrest and prosecution of the Alliance Girls School teacher over allegations of sexual misconduct with students.

Bitok who spoke during a Thanksgiving Day ceremony at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School, Nandi county, emphasised the government policy of zero tolerance on teachers-students romantic relationships.

“We are not going to condone any behavior where teachers or any other stakeholders in school take advantage of our children,” Bitok said.

“We want to condemn with the strongest terms possible those behaviors of teachers or any other characters who want to take advantage of our children sexually,” he added.

Bitok further stated that the arrest will not only apply to the teacher at Alliance Girls but also to any other teacher who attempts to exhibit the same behavior in other schools.

His sentiments come after allegations were published in Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, naming a teacher at the school over sexual misconduct with students.

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) also strongly condemned the alleged sexual misconduct at Alliance Girls High School.

In a statement issued on Monday 7, FIDA-Kenya expressed its deep concern over the revelations and stands firmly in support of the students who have come forward.

“These reports are not just shocking, they are heartbreaking,” FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu said.

“We are appalled that a person charged with guiding and mentoring students could instead use that position to allegedly harm them. These young women have shown tremendous courage by speaking up, and we stand with them.”

Kungu said the testimonies shared by survivors reveal not just abuse, but a pattern of neglect by those meant to protect them.

FIDA-Kenya condemned all forms of sexual abuse, particularly those committed by people in positions of trust.

FIDA issued a call to action directed at both the school and the Ministry of Education.
