Nairobi agent charged with stealing Sh7.9m meant for KRA taxes

A Nairobi-based agent was on Thursday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts over allegations of stealing more than Sh7.9 million from his employer, Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd.

Allan Kirawa Ogola is accused of stealing Sh7,986,742.25 between March 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, while serving as an agent of the company.

According to the charge sheet, the funds had been entrusted to Ogola for remittance to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as housing levy and PAYE on behalf of the firm.

"Allan Kirawa Ogola on diverse dates between March 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024, in Nairobi county, being an agent of M/s Mkondo was Afrika Ltd, stole a total sum of Sh7,986,742.25 from Mkondo was Afrika Ltd, which was entrusted to you to remit to Kenya Revenue Authority for housing levies and PAYE on behalf of the said Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd," read the charge sheet.

He denied all the charges when they were read to him in court.

Senior Principal Magistrate Ondieki granted him a bond of Sh1 million with two sureties or an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

Ogola had earlier been arrested on June 14, 2025, and released on a cash bail of Sh50,000.

The complaint was filed by Ahmed Sidgi Kaballo on behalf of Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd.

Witnesses listed include Kaballo, Daniel Kuria, and Corporal Francis Mwenda, with more expected to testify during the trial.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and investigations were carried out by officers from DCI Gigiri Police Station.

The matter will be mentioned on July 24, 2025, and a hearing is scheduled for August 18, 2025.
