Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has graduated with a Master of Public Administration from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Muthama shared the news of his academic milestone on social media, posting a photo captioned: “My Big Day at the University of Birmingham (Master of Public Administration)” on X.
The announcement sparked a wave of congratulatory messages from Kenyans, including prominent figures such as lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who lauded the former senator’s commitment to continuous learning and public service.
Muthama, a seasoned politician and businessman, is the founding chairman of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and currently serves as a commissioner at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
His academic achievement comes just weeks after he made headlines for strongly criticizing Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, over remarks touching on the sensitive events of Kenya’s 2007/08 post-election violence.
Speaking on May 25, Muthama warned that invoking memories of the dark chapter risked reopening old wounds and stirring national instability.
“We should forget about what happened in the past and move forward. If we choose to dwell on the past and claim we have not forgotten, Gachagua—you were the District Officer there. Don’t think people like Muthama don’t know what you did,” he said.
Muthama insisted that his stance was not personal but rooted in a desire to protect Kenya’s democratic progress and national unity.
“I have nothing personal against him. He was my Deputy President, and I was a witness to the process that led to his selection as UDA’s running mate. But there’s one thing I will not let pass. I am a true Kenyan who fears nothing. I will stand for the truth,” he declared.
He also condemned the chaotic scenes witnessed during the launch of Gachagua’s new political party last week, urging political leaders to uphold peace, inclusivity, and democratic ideals.
Muthama’s latest academic achievement adds to his rich career in public service and political leadership, marking yet another chapter in his evolving public life.
