Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has called on all elected leaders in the county to focus on development.

Governor Guyo said the residents are looking up to them for leadership, not division.

On Tuesday, Guyo survived an impeachment attempt after the Senate dismissed the case filed by the County Assembly on a technicality.

He asked the leaders to unite their efforts, channel the energy into service delivery, and ensure that every corner of Isiolo feels the impact of good governance.

The governor said the time for blame and polarisation is over, stating that the time for unity and progress is now.

“I therefore urge all elected leaders in Isiolo, from Members of the County Assembly, Members of Parliament, to our Senator, to come together, rise above our differences, and prioritise the development and well-being of people,” he said.

Governor Guyo said the Senate resolution serves as a powerful reminder of the need for unity, justice, and people-centred leadership.

He said it marks a time for healing and a renewed focus on serving Isiolo with integrity and inclusivity, reaffirming that truth has prevailed and that we must now move forward together.

Guyo called on Isiolo’s diverse communities to embrace their shared identity and unity.

“Regardless of background, origin, or political affiliation, we are one people, brothers and sisters, bound by common dreams of peace, opportunity, and a better future,” he said.

“Our collective challenges can only be overcome through mutual respect, cooperation, and a celebration of the diversity that strengthens us.”

Senators upheld preliminary objections raised by the governor, arguing that a valid impeachment had not occurred at the county assembly and that there was an active court order barring the process.

A total of 31 senators supported the motion on preliminary objection that the Isiolo county assembly never held any sitting in the assembly to impeach the governor.

On the other hand, 12 senators rejected the motion on preliminary objection and voted for the matter to proceed to a full hearing.

The lawmakers emphasised that impeachment is both a process and a procedure that must be guided by the Constitution and applicable laws.

“Justice must be served to all parties. In this case, we have the Isiolo County Assembly on one side and the governor on the other. The process and procedure must be followed,” said Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu.
