The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual misconduct involving a teacher at Alliance Girls High School.
The allegations, published in Africa Uncensored’s Deep Dive newsletter, name a teacher and Christian Union Patron at the school as the person accused of abuse.
In a statement issued on Monday, FIDA-Kenya expressed its deep concern over the revelations and stands firmly in support of the students who have come forward.
“These reports are not just shocking, they are heartbreaking,” FIDA-Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu said.
“We are appalled that a person charged with guiding and mentoring students could instead use that position to allegedly harm them. These young women have shown tremendous courage by speaking up, and we stand with them.”
Kungu said the testimonies shared by survivors reveal not just abuse, but a pattern of neglect by those meant to protect them.
“What we are hearing from these students points to years of unchecked abuse and silence. It reveals an institutional failure to respond, act, andprotect. That is not just unacceptable. It is dangerous,” she said.
FIDA-Kenya condemned all forms of sexual abuse, particularly those committed by people in positions of trust.
The organisation said the situation at Alliance Girls High School must serve as a wake-up call for all institutions responsible for children.
“That this may have happened in one of the country’s most respected schools for girls makes it even more disturbing,” Kungu said.
“Schools should be places where children grow, learn and feel safe, not spaces where abuse is allowed to continue in silence.”
Citing the Constitution, FIDA reminded schools and the government of their duty to provide a safe learning environment.
The organisation said it is offering legal and psychosocial support to the affected students and encouraged others with similar experiences to come forward.
“We want every girl who has experienced abuse to know that she is not alone,” Kungu said.
“We will walk with you, support you, and fight for your right to justice and healing.”
FIDA issued a call to action directed at both the school and the Ministry of Education.
It demanded that the Board of Management at Alliance Girls conduct a transparent and immediate investigation into the allegations.
It also requested that the Ministry take disciplinary and legal action against anyone who allowed the abuse to continue.
“The school must account for what happened. The Ministry must lead from the front in making sure this never happens again,” Kungu said.
FIDA urged the Ministry to require all schools to adopt clear gender-based violence policies.
It said teachers must receive mandatory training on preventing and responding to abuse.
It also called for safe reporting systems for students.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. We must protect our children, not tomorrow, but now,” Kungu said.
Kungu stated that survivors from Alliance Girls’ or any other school can reach FIDA-Kenya via toll-free line 0800 720 501 or email [email protected].
