National Police Service (NPS) officers from Bondo Police Station have arrested a woman and seized 270 rolls of cannabis sativa during a successful operation on July 3, 2025, in Nyang’oma Sub-Location, Siaya County.

The raid targeted illicit brews and narcotics following actionable intelligence gathered by law enforcement.

In addition to the bhang, officers also recovered uncustomed goods.

“The suspect was found in possession of 270 rolls of bhang, 50 kilograms of Ugandan sugar and 78 packets of export-only cigarettes among other items,” NPS stated.

The suspect is currently in custody at Bondo Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court once processing is complete.

The recovered items are being held as evidence as police initiate further legal proceedings.

NPS reiterated its commitment to combating narcotics and other illicit activities, urging the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.

“We commend the ongoing collaboration with members of the public, which is vital in dismantling networks of illegal trade and narcotics,” NPS said.

“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to fighting drug trafficking and all forms of illegal trade.”

The raid comes amid a broader national crackdown on illegal brews, drugs and cross-border smuggling operations, particularly in regions bordering Uganda.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities through anonymous tip-off channels available in their localities.

On June 9, police officers from Bungoma West Subcounty arrested a woman and seized 154 rolls of cannabis sativa after a successful raid in Nabuloli Village.

The raid was an act based on a tip-off from members of the public targeting the suspect's homestead.

The suspect was placed in custody at Sirisia Police Station, to wait for arraignment at Sirisia Law Courts.

The recovered drugs were held as evidence while police prepared to take further legal action.

NPS praised the public for their role in the operation, stressing that community involvement is crucial in the fight against drug-related crime.

“We laud members of the public who continue to support our efforts by providing information that led to this successful arrest and recovery,” NPS stated.
