The case against Jackson Kuria Kihara, also known as Cop Shakur, who is charged with publishing incorrect information, has been postponed to June 22, 2025.

The accused failed to appear at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday for the pre-trial directions in the matter.

His lawyer stated that the reason for his absence was that he had taken his sick child to the hospital.

His case was coming up for pre-trial, for the court to determine whether both sides were ready to proceed with the hearing on the matter.

The investigating officer in the matter informed the court that the cyber report had not yet been finalised, and he required an additional two weeks to complete it.

Magistrate Carolyne Mugo asked that the matter be mentioned on July 22, 2025, for further directions.

She further directed the accused to be present in court on the next mention date.

Cop Shakur was arrested on January 15, 2025, and arraigned the following day for publishing false information, in direct violation of Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act No. 5 of 2018.

He is accused of knowingly and unlawfully disseminating false information on his X account, under the username Shakur the Cop, on January 11, 2025.

Cop Shakur, who joined Kenyans in anti-finance bill protests on June 24, 2024, and was subsequently suspended, is accused of inciting panic and targeting government officials through his online posts.

He is currently out of police custody on a Sh50,000 cash bail.
