The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has officially announced the end of Dr Anne Rwamba Gitau’s tenure as commission secretary and chief executive officer, effective June 30, 2025.
On Thursday, July 3, Gitau formally handed over to CPA Margaret Njoka, director of corporate services, who will serve as acting commission secretary/CEO pending the recruitment of a substantive officeholder.
The recruitment process is currently underway.
Gitau’s leadership at the SRC spans an impressive 13 years, having served across all three commissions since its establishment.
The commission expressed its deep appreciation for her dedication and service, noting her significant contributions to public sector remuneration reforms in Kenya.
"The commission expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr Gitau for her commitment and dedicated service to SRC and to the people of Kenya, and wishes her the very best in her future endeavours," SRC said in a statement.
Gitau joined the SRC in 2012, shortly after the establishment of the commission on July 27, 2011.
Appointed CEO in 2015, Gitau is recognised as a distinguished leader in public service transformation, particularly in aligning Kenya’s compensation structures with global best practices.
Over the years, she has worked closely with both national and international stakeholders to strengthen Kenya’s remuneration frameworks.
A certified Human Resources Practitioner, Gitau is also well-regarded as a mentor to emerging professionals in talent management.
Her achievements have earned her national honours, including the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) awarded by President William Samoei Ruto in 2023, and the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), conferred by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
Under her stewardship, the SRC has gained a regional and global reputation as a pioneer in fair, innovative, and sustainable remuneration systems.
Her tenure has been marked by a strong emphasis on institutional integrity, strategic partnerships, and long-term impact.
The commission extended its best wishes to Dr Gitau in her future endeavours, praising her for her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to public service.
SRC is established under Chapter 12, Article 230 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
The commission's mandate is to set and regularly
review the remuneration and benefits of all state officers and advise the national and
county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.
