JKIA receives first Flightlink Zanzibar flight with water salute

The addition of this route is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchange across the region.

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday evening welcomed the inaugural Flightlink flight from Zanzibar, marking a new milestone in regional air connectivity.

The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute by the Kenya Airports Authority Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services team, symbolising the official launch of the new route.

The Zanzibar–Nairobi service will now operate daily, enhancing travel and trade between Kenya and Tanzania.

The flights will be to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport.

Flight YS115 departed from Zanzibar at 17h00 and arrived in Nairobi at 18h30. 

The return YS116 flight will depart from Nairobi at 19h30 and arrive in Zanzibar at 21h00.

The addition of this route is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchange across the region.

Earlier on, Captain Afzal Kermeli from Flightlink pointed out that the flight will be shortened, being direct from JKIA.

“We’re excited to give Kenyan travellers and international visitors alike a faster, easier and more comfortable way to experience the magic of Tanzania’s coast,” he said.
