A man was arrested after a woman he had been with was found murdered and her body dumped on the roadside in Narok Town.
The two had been together on Friday, June 27, dawn before the man sneaked back to the deceased’s house alone to sleep.
According to police and relatives of the woman, the two had been having drinks in their house in Olpobong area before they said they had run out of stock of the same and needed more from town.
The woman identified as Mary Wanjeri and the man left for town to get more drinks, leaving the deceased’s mother in the house.
At
about 4 am, after the mother had already fallen asleep, the suspect came back
alone and requested to sleep there since it was late for him to go back to his
house.
The
mother said she became suspicious as the man could not explain the
whereabouts of her daughter.
She told police he had told her he had left the deceased woman in town without further explanation.
The
woman screamed for help, prompting the suspect to escape the home as locals
responded.
The body of the woman was later in the morning found on the roadside. It was taken to a local mortuary pending an autopsy.
The
man was traced and arrested in his house in the Morijo area where police also
recovered a bloodstained dress.
He was taken for interrogation to establish what transpired leading to the murder.
Police said he is a person of interest in the case.
The
motive of the murder is yet to be established, police said.
Meanwhile, two people were separately found dead in suspected mob lynching incidents.
In the Kamulu area, Ruai, Nairobi, a body was found abandoned on the roadside after an attack by a mob.
Police said the victim was accused of robbing locals before he was confronted and killed.
His
body was later set on fire. Police are investigating the incident.
Elsewhere in the Murathankari area in Meru, a man was found dead after being
stoned to death by a mob. He was accused of being a thief, police said.
The
body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Police
discourage mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for
processing.
The police warn that those arrested over mob lynching may face serious charges like murder.
