The National Police Service (NPS) conducted a targeted operation in Ol'Kalou Township on Sunday in a move to restore order and accountability in Nyandarua County.
The intelligence-led operation, which focused on the Huruma and Vatican areas, resulted in the arrest of eleven suspects.
Some of the individuals were allegedly found in possession of items believed to have been looted during the June 25 demonstrations.
The NPS confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody, pending processing and arraignment in court.
Recovered items have been secured as evidence and will be used in the case against the suspects.
The NPS issued a stern warning to the public, particularly young people involved in demonstrations, against engaging in acts of violence, looting, or destruction of property.
This operation underscores the NPS’s commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly in the wake of recent public unrest.
The arrests come after religious leaders in the region visited areas affected by looting and arson, strongly condemning the violence.
The religious leaders also called upon investigative agencies to act swiftly and ensure that the "goons who infiltrated the peaceful protests" are held accountable.
A similar operation was carried out in Embu County by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), resulting in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of several items at their homesteads.
These suspects are also in police custody, pending arraignment at the Embu Law Courts on Monday, June 30, 2025. These crackdowns serve as a reminder of the importance of peaceful protest and the consequences of engaging in criminal activity during demonstrations.
The Wednesday, June 25, 2025 protests—held to mark the anniversary of the June 25, 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations—turned violent, leading to widespread looting and destruction of public property in various parts of the country.
