The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the Nairobi carriageway on the A8 Road between Fuso (Simba Colt) and the Southern Bypass interchange at Ole Sereni hotel.
In a notice, KeNHA director general Kung’u Ndungu said that the closure will take place from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 12, 2025.
The closure is intended to facilitate essential highway maintenance works along the affected section.
“During this period of road closure, heavy vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 3.5 tons and other motorists heading to the Southern Bypass will be diverted to exit the main highway at Kyang'ombe Slip Road,” Ndungu said.
“They will use old Mombasa Road, while other vehicles will utilise a single lane that will be provided along the affected section,” he added.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution around the work zones, follow the proposed traffic management plan, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.
Meanwhile, KeNHA on Saturday commenced road upgrade works on at the Gitaru interchange which will last for until August 11.
In anticipation of temporary traffic disruption, the authority issued a public notice on Friday reminding motorists to adhere to road signs to avoid interupting the flow of traffic.
The works involves the reconstruction of ramps, loops, and slip roads.
The closure at the stretch affects the Southwestern loop connecting A8 (Waiyaki Way) to the Southern bypass, at the intersection with the Western bypass.
As part of the traffic management plan, the authority said vehicles from A8 heading to the Southern Bypass are being diverted to E1507 Kikuyu-Link Road at the Sigona Golf Club junction.
Motorists coming from Nakuru toward the Southern bypass will use the newly constructed Southeastern loop.
They can alternatively use a temporary diversion along the Southern bypass median.
Those travelling from the Western bypass to A8 (Waiyaki Way) are required to use the Muguku interchange and then proceed through the Kikuyu-link road to rejoin A8 at the Sigona golf club junction.
