Former Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Njeri Macharia has declined her nomination to serve as chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board.
Her decision was communicated in a letter dated 25 June and addressed to Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata. In the letter, Macharia expressed her gratitude to the governor for the nomination.
"I hereby thank you for nominating me for the Chair of County Public Service Board, Murang’a," she wrote.
However, she turned down the appointment, citing another professional engagement as the reason for her decision.
“I decline the post because I have received another offer from an international body,” she stated.
According to Macharia, accepting both roles would compromise her ability to perform effectively.
She explained that the demands of the international role would, in her view, hinder her performance as chair of the Murang’a County Public Service Board.
The former TSC boss added that she had since learnt the county role would not be part-time.
“I have also realised the position is a full-time job,” she noted.
Macharia said she had initially hoped for a part-time role that would have allowed her to balance her professional commitments.
She conveyed her best wishes to the governor and appreciation for the opportunity.
Macharia did not disclose the name of the international organisation offering her the alternative role, nor did she indicate any intention to serve in county government in the future.
