Murkomen accepted the role following a request by Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, as the club marked a historic milestone in its football journey.
Established in 2014, APS Bomet FC is a unique blend of 14 uniformed police officers and 15 civilian players drawn from across Kenya.
Despite its youth, the club has steadily grown into a competitive side with a passionate fan base, regularly filling the Bomet IAAF Stadium during home fixtures.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony at the Border Police Training Campus in Kanyonyo, Kitui County, Murkomen pledged full government support to ensure the club thrives in the top tier.
“This team symbolises unity, discipline, and the untapped potential of our youth,” he said.
“We will support them both on the pitch and beyond—through improved facilities, employment opportunities, and cadet programs.”
He further promised to lobby President William Ruto to meet the team and help secure a team bus.
Club Chairman Bishop Fred Akama, on behalf of the players, vowed that APS Bomet FC would win the Premier League within four years.
The team was promoted to the top league after securing the 2nd position in the National Super League.
The club's CEO Chief Inspector Rose Chemutai was also present during the event.
Chemutai has seen significant growth of the team, rising from a community initiative to the National Super League (NSL).
She is known for her dedication and leadership in managing the all-male football team.
