Mumias East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has offered to nominate former Chief Justice David Maraga as his Attorney General should he be elected president in 2027.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Salasya praised Maraga for his high moral character and adherence to ethical standards throughout his career.
“I will nominate Maraga as my Attorney General. In his career, he demonstrated high moral character and compliance with ethical standards,” Salasya stated.
Interestingly, just like Salasya, Maraga has also officially declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Elections, marking a major shift from the judiciary to active politics.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Wednesday, Maraga said he would be on the ballot to offer alternative leadership and challenge the prevailing culture of impunity, corruption, and ethnicity-driven politics.
Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, said his decision is motivated by a deep desire to restore integrity, accountability, and ethical leadership in a country he believes is at a critical crossroads.
“After serious reflection, I thought it was time we reconsidered the leadership of this country. We can’t let some people drag our country through the mud. As a result of that reflection, I have made up my mind that I will run in 2027 for the presidency of this country,” he said.
Over the past few months, Salasya has been traversing the country to popularise his presidential bid.
Earlier this week, he hinted at plans to recruit prayer warriors into his 2027 campaign team.
In a post on his official Instagram account on the night of Monday, June 16, 2025, Salasya—who is seeking to unseat President William Ruto—stated that he would resume his presidential campaigns once the real killers of youthful teacher Albert Ojwang’ are revealed.
According to him, the matter should be concluded within a week to allow him to resume his vote-hunting mission.
However, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term MP said he would also need to recruit prayer partners and intercessors into his team.
