The confederation said the match will be staged on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
CAF said the announcement follows consultations with the three co-hosting nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The hosting will mark the return of the CHAN tournament to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda hosted it in 2016.
The competition, which is exclusively for players competing in their domestic leagues, will run from August 2 to 30, 2025.
Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening match of the tournament on August 2, while Uganda’s Mandela Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place playoff.
CAF also confirmed that Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium will be one of the official venues, further cementing its growing status in African football after successfully hosting the CAF Confederation Cup final in May.
CAF praised the joint hosting initiative, highlighting its importance in strengthening regional cooperation and expanding football infrastructure.
“The decision to spread the tournament across four East African locations, including Zanzibar, reflects our commitment to inclusivity and the growth of the game across all corners of the continent,” CAF said in an official statement released on Thursday.
The group stage matches will be distributed across the four host cities.
Group A will play in Nairobi, featuring Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.
Group B is set for Dar es Salaam with Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.
Group C will compete in Kampala, comprising Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria.
Group D matches will take place in Zanzibar and include Senegal, Congo (who replaced Equatorial Guinea after a CAF Appeals Board decision), Sudan, and Nigeria.
CAF is expected to announce further details regarding the match schedule, ticketing, and fan engagement activities in due course.
The announcement has sparked excitement across East Africa, with fans and football authorities anticipating a landmark event that showcases regional unity and sporting excellence.
