Kaluma warned the opposition against inciting Kenyan youths to take to the streets, insisting that pro-government forces will remain steadfast in defending the current administration.
At the same time, Kaluma asserted that the Luo community would not be dragged into protests he described as lacking any clear agenda.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Kaluma said former opposition supporters had shifted their priorities toward being part of the government and national development.
“Our people will not join you in your useless street protests. We’ve been on the streets, dying for you, since independence. We are now in government, busy rebuilding after years of neglect,” Kaluma declared.
The outspoken legislator expressed frustration over what he described as the historical exploitation of his community in past political struggles, saying they had long borne the brunt of resistance and activism at great personal cost.
“Visionless opposition leaders are inciting other people’s children to go to the streets while they remain behind sharing donor funding,” he said.
“Don’t be part of their donor funding statistics. Don’t go
to the streets unless they lead you there, with their children.”
Kaluma reiterated that his community had already paid its dues, having participated in countless demonstrations since independence in the fight for justice and democracy.
He insisted it was now time to focus on governance and nation-building, rather than continued protest.
His remarks come amid growing fears of a fresh wave of demonstrations in Nairobi and other parts of the country on June 25, as part of the Gen Z protests anniversary.
The protests are expected to also put pressure on the police, who are accused of extra-judicial killings.
