A section of Kenyans are protesting in the Nairobi Central District(CBD) over the recent murder of Albert Ojwang.

The protestors bore placards, flags, and pictures of the late Ojwang, together with other people who were killed by police.

They also wore t-shirts with Ojwang's image.

"Lagat should resign, not step down," a placard read.

This is not the first protest to be held.

Protesters came out on Thursday, June,14,2025, to demonstrate against Ojwang murder, demanding the resignation of Deputy IG Eliud Lagat.

There were running battles between the police and protesters as tear gas was thrown to disperse them.

Ojwang met his untimely death while in police custody. Postmortem revealed that his death was not self-inflicted. 

Investigations are still ongoing to bring out the people behind his death.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) confirmed that Albert Ojwang died inside a police cell at Central police station, contradicting initial claims by the police that he died at Mbagathi hospital.

In a statement, Ipoa disclosed that its investigations had established Ojwang died while in custody on June 8, shortly after his arrest in Homa Bay county and subsequent transfer to Nairobi.

“The deceased died while in custody at Nairobi's Central police station cells,” Ipoa said.

The authority added that the CCTV system located at the Officer Commanding Station’s (OCS) office had been tampered with, including disconnection of power cables and formatting of the device on the morning of Ojwang’s death.
