A technocrat, no nonsense and effective administrator is how most people describe him, with a rare trait of incorruptibility, political acumen and intellect to boot. These are qualities one can objectively say only President Mwai Kibaki comes has had. This is not to say other presidents have not had qualities that made them lead the country as they did.
However, Matiang’i differs from Kibaki in two ways that will prove to be impactful and make him far more successful than Kibaki were the voters to bestow him the honour and privilege of leading the country. First, how he got here and two, an un-squandered opportunity to transform the country culturally, politically and economically way beyond what any of his predecessors would have done.
