Kilifi
Governor Gideon Maitha Mung'aro on Sunday announced the death of his father,
Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior.
The
death coincided with Father’s Day, a moment when everyone is obligated to
celebrate their fathers.
The
Governor announced the sad news in an emotional statement on social media,
which recounted the highs and lows of their life together.
“Today,
on Father’s Day, I have lost my father Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” Mung’aro
said.
He
further expressed his gratitude to friends and family for the steady support
during this difficult time, even as he acknowledged the pain of losing his
father.
“It
is a deeply painful moment, but I am truly grateful for the love, support and
prayers from family, friends and all who have reached out,” he said.
“Your
kindness is helping us through this difficult time. Thank you, from the bottom
of my heart.”
Mombasa
Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir has extended his condolences to Governor
Mung’aro's family, saying the county government and the people of Mombasa are
in solidarity with them.
“It
is with great sorrow that we have learned of the passing of your beloved
father, Gideon Baya Mung'aro Senior,” Nassir stated.
He
described Mzee Mung’aro as a respected elder and leader who served the greater
Gede location with distinction and left behind a legacy of honour, service and
community leadership.
“On
behalf of the Mombasa people, I extend our deepest sympathies to you and the
entire Mung'aro family,” Nassir said.
Nassir
explained that the loss of a parent is immeasurable and promised to stand with
Mung’aro in this moment of profound grief.
Additionally, he promised to join the people of Kilifi in celebrating the life of Mzee Mung'aro Senior, saying that the values of Mzee Mung’aro on leadership will forever be echoed in the country at large.
