Deputy President Kithure Kindiki sustained his grassroots empowerment campaigns this week, embarking on a packed itinerary aimed at boosting the government’s popularity and turning around the fortunes of the Kenya Kwanza administration amid perceived growing public discontent.

On Friday, Kindiki was in Nyamira Town for an empowerment campaign, accompanied by top Kenya Kwanza leaders.

He also held an engagement for Women, Youth and Small-Scale Traders Groups SACCOs at the Kawaya Stadium, Mwala Constituency, Machakos County.

On Thursday, Kindiki visited Kasikeu Market in Makueni County, where he presided over the Kilome Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement targeting women, youth, and small-scale traders' SACCOs.

During the event, Kindiki condemned the killing of social media influencer and teacher Albert Ojwang and cautioned against politicising the case.

In his address, he assured the public that investigations into Ojwang’s death would be thorough and impartial, and that all individuals involved, whether directly or indirectly, would be held accountable.

“There must be individual accountability and personal responsibility for the person involved in the killing of the slain teacher,” Kindiki said.

“If there is anyone who was involved in any way, or anyone who ordered or facilitated the crime, whatever they are—they must face the law.”

On Monday, Kindiki led a major harambee in Kitui Central Constituency as part of his ongoing empowerment efforts.

He used the platform to warn against individuals who promote ethnic, regional, or religious divisions, stating that they pose a grave threat to the country's unity, security, and stability.

“We are on course in fulfilling the commitments made in 2022 to uplift the socio-economic status of all Kenyans and dignify the daily toil of Mama Mboga, hawkers, boda boda riders, jua kali artisans, and other micro and small enterprises that are instrumental in the country’s growth,” he said.

“The construction of 400 modern and ESP markets, expanded electricity access, and completion of stalled roads across the country are a testament to the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).”

A day earlier, Kindiki was in Thika Town Constituency, where he affirmed that the economic empowerment programmes for women and youth SACCOs complement the Kenya Kwanza administration’s broader efforts to stimulate the grassroots economy.

He noted that Gatuanyaga, Ngoingwa, Ngoliba, and Madaraka are among the new modern and ESP markets being built as part of the 400 targeted under the national Market Infrastructure Programme.

“Our support for mama mboga, boda boda riders, salon and barbershop owners, carpenters, electricians, and other small-scale traders is unstoppable,” Kindiki said.

“With increased production of food and cash crops, improved earnings for farmers, and a drop in the cost of food and essential items, we are creating a conducive environment for small-scale traders to do business with dignity and safety.”
