Several leaders have sent messages of condolence to Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro following the death of his father, Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro.

Governor Mung’aro announced the news on Sunday in an emotional statement on social media.

“Today, on Father’s Day, I have lost my father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” he wrote.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga extended her condolences to the Mung’aro family, saying, “I extend my deepest condolences to Governor Mung’aro and the family, on behalf of the people of Homa Bay County and my own.”

“This loss coming on Father’s Day makes it even more profound. May you find strength in the cherished memories and enduring legacy of your beloved father.”

Wanga also pledged support to the family during this difficult period.

Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho also conveyed his sympathies.

“It is with profound sadness that I have received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior. Please know that my heart is with you during this difficult time of mourning,” Joho stated.

“I extend my deepest condolences to my dear brother and friend, the Governor of Kilifi County, and his family. I share in your pain and loss, and pray that the Almighty God comfort you and your family. May He grant Mzee Gideon Mung’aro Senior eternal peace.”

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir also mourned the elder Mung’aro, saying the people of Mombasa stand in solidarity with the family.

“It is with great sorrow that we have learned of the passing of your beloved father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” Nassir said. He described Mzee Mung’aro as a respected elder and leader who served Gede location with distinction, leaving behind a legacy of honour, service, and community leadership," he said.

“On behalf of the Mombasa people, I extend our deepest sympathies to you and the entire Mung’aro family."

Nassir acknowledged the deep pain of losing a parent and pledged his support to Governor Mung’aro.

He also said he would join the people of Kilifi in celebrating Mzee Mung’aro’s life and values, which he said would continue to resonate across the country.
