Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that the government is in the process of procuring new vehicles to enhance the mobility of police officers.
Speaking during the 5th graduation ceremony for Assistant County Commissioners at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, Murkomen said the National Treasury is already facilitating the procurement process, which aims to ease the logistical challenges faced by security and administrative officers.
“We pray that this process is really expedited, and we believe that it will solve the problem of mobility of our officers,” said Murkomen.
“We do not want our Assistant County Commissioners to be requesting for boda bodas as they go to offer services on the ground.”
The new vehicles will primarily serve police officers, but some units will be allocated to National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), ensuring greater efficiency and responsiveness at the grassroots level.
The graduation ceremony marked the culmination of a long-overdue training program, with 802 Assistant County Commissioners receiving Diplomas in Public administration—a course last conducted in 2016. The training equips officers with critical leadership and managerial skills, a mandatory requirement for career progression within the public service.
Due to the extended gap in training, many officers had faced career stagnation. With the completion of the course, the graduates are now eligible for promotion to the next job group.
Murkomen acknowledged the delays and assured that moving forward, the government will ensure regular training schedules across all NGAO cadres to avoid future backlogs.
“Congratulations to the graduating officers. I urge you to utilise the knowledge and skills gained to serve wananchi with dedication,” he said.
The event was graced by President William Ruto, alongside key government leaders including Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo (Internal Security), Jane Imbunya (Public Service), Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Affairs), Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, and DCI Director Mohamed Amin.
