Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has signaled a potential political olive branch to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, hinting at efforts to bring the veteran politician closer to the government.
Speaking during a visit to Mwala Constituency on Friday, Kindiki referred to Kalonzo as his “elder brother”, expressing deep respect for the former Vice President and stating his intent to reach out to him personally.
“I have come from far with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and there’s never been a time I’ve insulted or disrespected him. He is my brother, and like all leaders from Ukambani—even those in the opposition—he remains my friend,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President noted that both he and Kalonzo had held the same high-ranking position in government at different times, suggesting that the future remained open for greater collaboration.
“No one knows what the future holds. Kalonzo was once a vice president, and so am I now. We must not spoil the national mood with useless politics, divisions, and conflict,” Kindiki remarked.
Kindiki went on to criticise some of Kalonzo’s current political allies, suggesting they have previously disrespected him but are now elevating his status for their own gain.
“There are those who previously said Kalonzo had no votes in his own backyard. Today they claim he has the numbers — where did the votes come from in just a year?” he posed.
The DP also shared a personal connection with the Wiper leader’s family, revealing that he once taught Kalonzo’s son, Kennedy Musyoka, now an MP at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), at university.
“We respect each other, and I even taught his eldest son, who is now an MP at EALA. I also assisted him in pursuing further education in Australia,” Kindiki said.
While acknowledging Kalonzo’s stature as a “respectful and educated gentleman,” Kindiki expressed concern that the Wiper leader was being drawn into what he termed as “politics of confrontation and insults”.
“I know him as a good leader. But there are people who want to spoil his name. I don’t want them to mislead him,” he added.
