Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has clashed with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, just hours after a heated exchange between the senator and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in the Senate.

Murkomen had appeared before the Senate on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, to respond to questions surrounding the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang.

During the session, he engaged in a tense confrontation with Cherargei.

Cherargei, a vocal critic of Murkomen, has been calling for the CS’s resignation over what he termed as incompetence in handling the country’s internal security affairs.

In a post on his X account on June 12, Sudi came to Murkomen’s defence and saying Cherargei was 'unfairly targeting the CS due to his loyalty to President William Ruto'.

“Stop going around the corners by attacking Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen when you know very well it's President William Ruto you are targeting. Man up and face him directly,” Sudi wrote.

The Kapseret MP went on to allege that Cherargei’s attacks on Murkomen were part of a broader political strategy, claiming the senator was preparing to defect from the Kenya Kwanza government to join former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp.

“We know your heart is in Wamunyoro’s camp. Be bold and cross over to serve your master freely,” Sudi added.

Earlier in the Senate, Cherargei had demanded Murkomen’s resignation over the Ojwang’ case, urging President Ruto to consider a Cabinet reshuffle.

“I believe it’s high time the President considered a reshuffle and returned the Cabinet Secretary for Interior to the Sports docket. Everybody must be held accountable,” said Cherargei.

Murkomen fired back, claiming that Cherargei’s criticism stemmed from personal spite and political opportunism. He further launched a personal attack, stating that Cherargei was a “below average” student when he taught him at the university.

“Every time I’ve appeared in this House since I became a minister, this same senator has called for my resignation. All these claims are built around the theme that I am incompetent,” Murkomen said.

Taking a sharp jab, he added, “Senator Cherargei was my student. I taught him more than two subjects, and his performance was below average. He has no legitimacy to question my competence. I will table the results if necessary.”

But Cherargei swiftly responded on Thursday, denying Murkomen’s claims and accusing him of making false political statements to deflect from his performance as Interior CS.

“For the record, CS Murkomen never taught me in any law class. He was just making political statements to save his skin from accountability and his poor performance at the Ministry of Interior,” Cherargei posted on X.
