Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at an economic empowerment event in Kilome Constituency/DPCSDeputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly condemned the killing of Albert Ojwang’, and cautioned against the politicisation of the case.
Speaking during an empowerment event for micro and small-scale traders and Saccos at Kasikeu Secondary School in Kilome Constituency, Kindiki called for individual accountability and assured the public that justice would be pursued through due process.
Ojwang’ died under controversial circumstances while in police custody. His death has ignited widespread outrage, particularly in Nairobi, where protests have been held demanding answers. The incident has also raised questions regarding the role of law enforcement in his demise.
In his address, Kindiki stressed that the investigation into Ojwang’s death would be thorough and that all parties involved—whether directly or indirectly—would be held accountable for their actions.
"There must be individual accountability, personal responsibility for the person who was involved in the killing of the slain teacher," Kindiki asserted. "If there is anyone who was involved in any way, if there was anyone who sent or ordered the killers to commit the crime, whoever they are, they must face the law.”
He urged both the public and political leaders to refrain from using the tragedy as a platform for political gain, underscoring that the pursuit of justice should remain impartial and objective.
"We cannot allow this country to degenerate into lawlessness. The government does not entertain extrajudicial killings or any form of torture," the Deputy President stated, adding, "The killer must be brought to book."
In response to the widespread concern, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that investigations into Ojwang's death were underway.
Kanja called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to lead the investigation, particularly into the alleged tampering with CCTV footage at the Central Police Station, where Ojwang was last seen.
"Let us give IPOA an opportunity to conduct quick investigations so that we can know what happened," Kanja said, reaffirming that the authorities were committed to uncovering the truth.
Ojwang’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the
community, and calls for justice continue to grow louder, with many demanding
transparency from the government.
The incident has sparked protests, particularly in Nairobi, where demonstrators are calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teacher's death and for justice to be served.
