The Kenya Meteorological Department has said several regions
should brace for continued wet and chilly weather, even as others prepare for
sweltering daytime heat and gusty winds.
According to the weather outlook for the period between Tuesday,
June 10 and Monday, June 16, 2025, rainfall is expected to persist in five key
regions.
These include the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western Kenya and the Coast.
Several regions will receive above-normal cumulative rainfall.
They include the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Central Rift Valley, parts of the Southern Rift Valley, parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (Nyandarua) and parts of Northwestern Kenya.
Turkana and Samburu counties will experience occasional rainfall with the total likely to be above the long-term average amounts for June.
Counties in the southeastern lowlands are expected to be generally sunny and dry, with occasional cloudy conditions.
Night-time temperatures are also forecast to dip significantly in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro, with lows expected to fall below 10°C.
Residents in these highland areas are advised to keep warm, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and the sick.
Meanwhile, Kenya Met said hot daytime conditions, with temperatures soaring above 30°C, are expected to dominate much of the Coast, as well as North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
This spike in heat could exacerbate dry conditions in arid and semi-arid areas, with implications for water and livestock resources.
The forecast also warns of strong winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s), particularly over Kenya’s coastal strip, territorial waters, South-eastern lowlands, and parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
The winds, blowing from the south to southeast, may affect marine activities and light structures, prompting caution from residents and maritime operators.
Occasional cool and cloudy conditions with light rains are expected in the Central Highlands, Nairobi area, parts of western Kenya, the Central Rift Valley, and the Southeastern Lowlands as the cool season gradually sets in.
The weatherman urged the public to stay informed through daily updates and heed safety advisories, especially as the country continues to experience shifting weather patterns influenced by regional climatic systems.
