Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr Ouma Oluga has held discussions with Aga Khan University Hospital Chief Executive Officer Rashid Khalani on potential areas of collaboration.
The meeting took place at Afya House in Nairobi County, focusing on partnerships in medical education, research, and capacity building for county health personnel, particularly in the effective utilisation of medical equipment.
“The Ministry of Health is advancing discussions with Aga Khan University Hospital on potential collaboration,” the Ministry said in a statement on X.
Dr Oluga commended the institution for its ongoing support to the national health system, acknowledging its role in complementing government efforts to enhance healthcare delivery.
“If we have a united effort, we build a better healthcare system that serves our people effectively and efficiently,” he stated.
The meeting also explored the introduction of a unified digital yellow fever certification card, aimed at streamlining verification processes and improving access to travel-related services.
On May 21, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale held a bilateral meeting with the Director General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), Dr. Jerome Kim, to advance partnerships in vaccine research, development, and manufacturing.
The meeting saw the CS propose the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence for Biomanufacturing Workforce Development, seeking IVI’s support in its design and resource mobilisation.
“We explored Kenya's ambition to become a regional vaccine hub, with key focus on co-developing at least two proposals under the Africa Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) and the Advancing Vaccine End-to-End Capabilities (AVEC), targeting endemic diseases like Rift Valley Fever, Chikungunya and Dengue by 2025,” said Duale.
He further called for increased Kenyan participation in the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing (GTH-B) and urged for the expedited signing of the Host Country Agreement (HCA) to facilitate the commencement of joint activities within 60 days.
