Finance Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has defended President William Ruto’s administration, asserting that it is stable and firmly on course to transform the country.

Speaking in Eldoret during the Kapsaret Economic Empowerment Programme, Mbadi dismissed critics who claim the government is ineffective or unable to deliver on its mandate

He emphasised that, as the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, he is well-informed about the government's operations and financial standing.

“The government is stable. I don’t understand how anyone can claim it is failing,” Mbadi said.

He praised President Ruto as a courageous leader who is prepared to take bold risks in the interest of the nation.

Highlighting his own appointment to the Finance docket despite being from the opposition ODM party and a different region, Mbadi commended Ruto’s commitment to inclusivity.

“I admire the President because he had the courage to appoint someone from a different political party and ethnic background to such a critical position. That kind of leadership is rare—even in developed nations,” Mbadi stated.

During the event, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi distributed empowerment items—including two vehicles—to various groups in his constituency.

The items were valued at over Sh45 million, with more than 40 political leaders and businesspeople contributing an additional KSh30 million to support the programme.

Other notable attendees included National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.

Mbadi pledged to work tirelessly to support President Ruto’s administration.

“I will not let him down. I will do everything in my capacity to revive the economy and deliver tangible benefits to all Kenyans,” he affirmed.

According to Mbadi, President Ruto inherited an economy in dire straits two years ago, plagued by a trillion-shilling deficit and a heavy debt burden. However, he noted that significant progress has been made.

“Today, food is more affordable thanks to subsidised fertiliser. For the first time, Kenya has produced enough sugar for domestic consumption and is now preparing to export,” he said.

He also highlighted the successful revitalisation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which he said is now operational despite initial criticism.

“I want to urge Kenyans not to be misled. The government is stable and is making steady progress,” Mbadi said.

He revealed that most contractors have been paid outstanding bills and will soon resume work on infrastructure projects, including roads.

He also cited the construction of over 400 markets across the country over the past two years.

Mbadi said that, as a long-serving former ODM chairman, he had chosen to work with the ruling UDA party for the greater good of the country. He noted that the Luo community had resolved to support President Ruto wholeheartedly.

“Everyone witnessed how our people camped overnight at the stadium in Homa Bay to welcome President Ruto. They appreciate his leadership and development agenda,” he said.

“We are part of the government, and we are here to stay. We did not join halfway—we are fully committed.”

Mbadi questioned how anyone could expect him to leave the government after being entrusted with managing the national treasury.

“How can I step aside when I’m the one responsible for authorising payments—including salaries for the President and Members of Parliament?” he asked.

He pledged to serve all Kenyans fairly and ensure the equitable distribution of national resources.

“In this country, there are places with roads leading right to people’s bedrooms. That’s the level of development we want to see across the entire nation,” Mbadi concluded.

He also praised MP Oscar Sudi for organising what he described as an outstanding economic empowerment initiative, and he defended the government’s broader efforts to uplift vulnerable communities.

Mbadi criticised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying that the 2022 election season was over and that the Rift Valley remained politically stable and united.
