Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) have recovered 2,350 litres of illicit brew in a targeted operation in the Kibera area in Nairobi region.

In a statement on X, NPS highlighted that they were able to recover kangara and chang’aa that were being sold to the residents.

“During the operation, we recovered approximately 2,000 litres of kangara and 350 litres of chang’aa,” NPS stated.

The operation is part of a broader nationwide crackdown on the production, distribution, and sale of illegal alcoholic beverages, which pose serious health and social risks to the public.

Elsewhere in Kisii, 1,300 litres of chang’aa and brewing apparatus were recovered at a homestead during an operation by a multi-agency team comprising police officers from Magena Police Station and National Government Administration Officers.

“The owner of the illicit brew managed to evade arrest, but efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing,” NPS stated.

However, the operational team was able to recover exhibits which are secured.

In Kwale County, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and officers from Mackinnon Road Police Station recovered six sacks containing suspected narcotics and 73 cannabis sticks.

Forty of the cannabis sticks were found loose on a bed, while the remaining 33, each wrapped in brown paper, were concealed inside a jerrycan.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody, pending processing and arraignment in court.

The National Police Service has warned the public against involvement in the production or distribution of illegal alcohol, as such activities pose serious health and safety risks.

“Stern action will be taken against those who defy the law,” said NPS.

Members of the public are urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities related to the sale or production of illicit alcohol and any forbidden drug.
