President William Ruto on Saturday received Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations set for June 1 in Homa Bay County.
President Musar will be the guest of honour at the national event, which will be held at the newly renamed Raila Odinga Stadium.
Madaraka Day commemorates Kenya’s attainment of internal self-rule in 1963 and is marked by national ceremonies, cultural displays, and presidential addresses.
This marks the first-ever visit by a Slovenian Head of State to Kenya, coming 21 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2004.
The two presidents are expected to hold high-level bilateral talks focusing on strengthening economic and development cooperation, as well as promoting regional peace and security.

Key discussion areas will include multilateral collaboration on climate action, sustainable development financing, and reforming the United Nations system.
During her visit, President Musar is also scheduled to launch The Conduit, a state-of-the-art Climate Intelligence Hub at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The hub is a joint initiative by JHUB Africa and Slovenia’s SPACE-SI (Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies), and it aims to support innovative, youth-led solutions in climate action, smart agriculture, and digital technologies.
