Addressing residents of Matuu on their way to Machakos County for a mega rally on Friday, May 30, 2025, Gachagua said the Ukambani region is firmly behind Kalonzo.
The
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader noted that the region will play a
central role in forming the next government due to its significant voting bloc.
“Today, I am a very happy man. I will sleep peacefully because Kalonzo has a solid base,” Gachagua told hundreds of supporters in Matuu.
“Kalonzo is
a serious leader, and whenever he gives political direction, his people
listen.”
“In the 2027
elections, elect all leaders in Ukambani from the Wiper party to give Kalonzo a
strong base,” he said.
“If you
elect leaders from many parties or independents, you will weaken Kalonzo's authority
at the negotiating table. Give him Wiper MPs only.”
Gachagua and Kalonzo are leading a coalition of opposition heavyweights in a show of strength, presenting a united front as they rally support to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.
Kalonzo said he has received the mandate from the Ukambani community to represent them in opposition coalition talks aimed at fielding a joint presidential candidate.
“Yesterday
(Thursday), I received an endorsement from my people to begin the journey to
form the next government, and I am ready for the country’s top job,” Kalonzo
said.
DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa also praised Kalonzo for maintaining strong support in the Ukambani region, describing him as a dependable leader.
This will be the first joint public rally by Gachagua and Kalonzo in Machakos since the opposition leaders agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 General Election.
