The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on May 29, 2025,  asked a court to allow them to hold three suspects in the alleged abduction involving Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

The detectives asked a Milimani court to allow them to hold the three for 15 days pending an ongoing investigation.

In a miscellaneous application filed in court, the DCI claims that Koimburi was kidnapped from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha by the three respondents.

The DCI argued that investigations are still ongoing and releasing the suspects at this stage could jeopardise the process, especially since the MP is yet to record his official statement.

According to court papers, the allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political divisions across the country, as well as within the concerned constituency, which is cosmopolitan.

“This presents a threat to national peace and stability,” the police said.

They claimed Koimburi remains critically ill, according to close friends and family.

The outcome of his medical condition is uncertain, as doctors have yet to release their findings, the police argued.

The court was also informed that the matter poses a grave national security concern.

Besides being a sitting Member of Parliament, Koimburi is affiliated with the newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is in opposition to the current government.

This political dynamic has reportedly fueled intense public reaction that could escalate into serious unrest.

The DCI emphasised that kidnapping is a serious offence under the Penal Code.

Preliminary investigations also suggest that after reportedly evading arrest on May 23, 2025, the MP later returned safely to his home in Mugutha.

This was allegedly confirmed by the first respondent, who visited him and was informed that the MP intended to seek legal redress to recover his impounded vehicle from the police.

Police had detained his four-wheel drive car as they sought to arrest him that day.

He jumped onto a motorcycle and escaped, leaving his driver on the road with the car.

The court will hear and determine on the application on Friday, May 30.

On May 29, police said they had arrested a fourth person in relation to what they say was the staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

In a statement on Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations issued an update on the case.

Koimburi remains admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi following the alleged abduction.
