  • Police said they will issue further updates as the investigations continue.

Police have arrested a fourth person in relation to what they say was the staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

Three others were arrested on Wednesday and two vehicles, which police said were used in the simulated kidnapping, were seized.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said in a statement the three had confessed to have been involved in the fake abduction.

In a statement on Thursday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations issued and update on the case saying detectives had arrested a fourth person linked to the fiasco.

They denied reports doing rounds on social media that the individual, an MCA in Murangá county, had been abducted.

"We wish to confirm that the MCA was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi. It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon George Koimburi the entire night," the statement said.

Police said they will issue further updates as the investigations continue.

Koimburi remains admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi following the alleged abduction.

Kanja said they have evidence to prove that the MP was never abducted or injured, as the alleged abduction was a mere simulation orchestrated by the legislator himself and his associates.

He said the MP spent the night in a hotel on the night of Sunday, May 25, 2025, after attending a church service in Mugutha.

The IG said one of his associates admitted to dropping the MP at a hotel where he had refreshments and spent the night with the two abductors.

"On May 26, 2025, he picked up the MP from the hotel and took him to the scene where they claimed he had been dumped. Before the MP exited the vehicle, he helped him tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture by the alleged abductors," the IG added.

The true state of Koimburi's health status remains a matter of speculation, as efforts by the National Assembly to ascertain his well-being were thwarted on Wednesday after two MPs sent on a fact-finding mission were denied access to the MP's ward at the Karen Hospital.

The MPs said a senior nurse told them he could not divulge Koimburi's medical status for confidentiality purposes.

However, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed on Monday after visiting the MP at the hospital that he had been administered a chemical substance, which affected his vocal cords and rendered him unable to speak.
