Two university students were on Monday, May 26, 2025, charged at the Milimani Law Courts with defrauding a woman of over Sh15 million in a cryptocurrency case.
Jesus Godoua Imedji and Judith Mbaya Nzioka are accused of conning Tuyishime Grace out of 116,000 USDT—equivalent to Sh15,360,000—by falsely claiming they could help her trade on Binance, a global cryptocurrency exchange.
The two also face a second charge of conspiracy to defraud. They pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Beth Kariuki, the investigating officer, opposed their release on bail. She told the court that the charges were serious and warned that freeing the accused could jeopardise the investigation.
Kariuki said Imedji, a citizen of the Central African Republic, is a flight risk.
She also described Nzioka as a suspected accomplice with deep knowledge of criminal operations, suggesting she could interfere with witnesses or tamper with evidence if released.
However, defence counsel argued that both accused have already been in custody for 28 days and have been formally charged.
He said Imedji’s passport had been confiscated and that this should ease concerns about him fleeing. The defence urged the court to consider granting a reasonable and fair cash bail.
