Kenya has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the regional peace and security agenda reached during the 9th Sectoral Council on Interstate Security (SCISS) of the East African Community (EAC), held in Entebbe, Uganda.
Speaking during the opening session on Thursday, May 22 2025, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr Raymond Omollo, expressed Kenya’s strong support for the EAC’s integration and security agenda.
He emphasised the importance of deepening regional cooperation in response to the complex and evolving security threats facing East Africa.
“Kenya remains committed to a secure, peaceful, and integrated East African Community. We continue to support joint operations, cross-border programmes, and initiatives that enhance our collective resilience,” he said.
Omollo noted that the region was grappling with a host of transboundary challenges, including violent extremism, climate-induced conflicts, health emergencies, proliferation of small arms, cybercrime, and human trafficking.
He called for a united approach and strategic coordination of these security matters among Partner States.
“Our presence here is a testament to the shared recognition that security is no longer a national issue alone, but a regional and global responsibility.This forum gives us an opportunity to take stock of our progress and map a way forward,” he added.
Omollo said Kenya remained up to date with its statutory contributions to the EAC, demonstrating its consistent dedication to the integration process.
He urged the Sectoral Council to prioritise the implementation of agreed strategies, strengthen mutual trust, and uphold the spirit of solidarity that defined the East African Community and the broader Pan-African vision.
The high-level meeting received and discussed the implementation status of previous decisions and directives both at the regional and partner states’ levels.
According to the EAC Secretariat’s report, Kenya had partially implemented decisions related to peace and security and had committed to progressively honour its obligations.
Present at the meeting were ministers, principal secretaries, senior officials, and representatives from all EAC Partner States.
