Standard Media Group’s Zubeidah Kananu has retained her position as the president of the Kenya Editors Guild.
Kananu retained her position after she garnered 72 votes against her closest challenger, Citizen's Yvonne Okwara who polled 58 votes in the virtual elections held on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Kananu will be deputized by Francis Openda.
Agnes Mwangangi was elected as Member for Radio, Julius Bosire as member for academia, Mildred Awuor television representative, Linda Bach print representative, while Kenfrey Kiberenge was elected as online/digital representative.
Others were Martin Masai, Ruth Nesoba and Mbugua Ng'ang'a, who were picked as trustees.
On April 12, the Kenya Editors Guild elections and annual general meeting were postponed.
The elections, which were the main agenda of the AGM, were postponed due to a lack of quorum.
"It's imperative that the membership gets a 2/3 threshold. As of now, it's yet to be achieved, as collected by the secretariat. We need a way forward," the returning officer said then.
"Since the law requires the threshold, I would discourage that we continue unless members feel we can continue to wait and whip up quorum."
KEG had earlier urged its members to engage actively and uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and respect that they are guided by.
