
Two young girls were burnt to death in a fire incident in Buuri, Meru County.
The incident happened in
Mutethis area at a rental house.
The mother of the girls aged
two and had locked them, in the house and left for errands when the fire broke
out.
The fire burned down the house, killing the two children, police said.
The cause of the fire is yet to
be established.
Witnesses and police said the
mother collapsed and became unconscious after realising that her children had
succumbed to the inferno
The bodies were moved to the
mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.
Elsewhere in Ramasha, Kisii
County, at least 23 students at Amabuko Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School
were injured in a fire incident.
Police said the students were
in their classes when the fire broke out in one of the dormitories at about 8
pm.
During the incident, 23
students sustained injuries due to a stampede and were rushed to Keroka Level 4
Hospital, where 20 were treated and discharged in fair condition, and three
were admitted but in stable condition.
Property of unknown value was
damaged, and the cause of the fire was not established, police said.
And in Nyacheki, Kisii County,
one George Nyanamba, 40, was found dead in a river after suspected drowning.
Police are investigating the
incident that happened on the River Mogonga in Isena village.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.
Meanwhile, a man was killed by a train in Webuye, Bungoma County.
The victim, identified as Joseph
Barasa, 20, was run over by a train at the Joyland area at the Webuye-Sudi section.
The man was found in pain and
had both his legs and left hand crushed, but was still alive.
He was rushed to Webuye Sub-county hospital, where he later succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police said they are investigating the incident, and the body was taken to a local mortuary.
