This marks the first time Gachagua’s loyalists are
organising a key public function without him, signalling a shift in strategy
aimed at consolidating support.
Under the new approach, Kindiki’s lieutenants will be
hosting events in their constituencies, including those focused on development
projects, and will invite their counterparts from Gachagua’s camp.
The move is seen as the latest in a series of manoeuvres by
Gachagua’s team to limit his public appearances to major political rallies, as
his focus expands beyond Mount Kenya to other regions of the country.
In Embu, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, a key Gachagua ally,
is hosting some of the former DP’s closest political associates as he seeks to
consolidate support in the county.
Mukunji is launching a computer distribution program for
secondary schools in Manyatta, ushering in a new era of digital learning.
“The computers will help transform traditional classrooms
into modern digital hubs,” read one of the posters shared on his X page.
The programme aims to equip classrooms with computers as
part of what he calls 21st-century learning.
The MP is also spearheading a bold initiative to improve
practical science education in schools through his Masomo Bila Stress
programme, which introduces mobile laboratories across the constituency.
The team is led by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa and
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina.
From Manyatta, the Gachagua-led group has outlined a
programme that will take them to every constituency represented by MPs allied
to the former DP across the Mount Kenya region.
Gachagua’s new strategy comes at a time when his successor,
Kithure Kindiki, has intensified his empowerment programmes across the country.
During his events, Kindiki has been accompanied by MPs from
the regions he visits—seen as a move to strengthen support for Kenya Kwanza
allies.
Gachagua is expected to tour Western Kenya on Saturday, May
24, 2025, as competition for the region’s vote bloc heats up.
This will be his first visit to the Luhya Nation since
launching the DCP on May 15, 2025, and naming former Kakamega Senator Cleophas
Malala as the party’s deputy leader.
The tour comes at a critical time as Gachagua prepares to
host nearly 5,000 delegates on June 3, 2025, for the official launch of the DCP
at the Kasarani Gymnasium.
