

Police in Laikipia East on Thursday, May 22, 2025 recovered stolen livestock after a confrontation with suspected bandits.
The coordinated security operation led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Doldol police station successfully recovered stolen livestock following a report of theft in the area.
The multi-agency team, comprising officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and other security units, launched a swift pursuit in response to the theft, which had raised alarm among local pastoralist communities.
During the operation near Ol-Kinyei Dam, officers encountered a group of armed bandits believed to be responsible for the livestock theft.
The security personnel engaged the suspects, who were overwhelmed and forced to abandon the stolen animals as they fled the scene.
Seven cows were recovered intact and subsequently escorted to Kiwanja Ndege Shopping Centre, where they were handed back to their rightful owner.
The recovery brought relief to the affected community.
The successful recovery comes amid intensified efforts by Kenyan security agencies to combat banditry, particularly in regions like Laikipia, which have experienced recurrent livestock raids and violent attacks.
Recent police actions include increased patrols, intelligence-led operations, and community policing initiatives aimed at dismantling bandit networks and restoring peace.

It comes as the country is still to come to terms with the cold-blooded murder of a Catholic priest in Kerio Valley in West Pokot.
Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, who served at St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, was ambushed and shot dead Thursday afternoon as he traveled back to Tot after presiding over a Jumuiya mass in Kakbiken village.
A catechist who was with him is still missing.
Police believe it was a targeted assault.
The NPS said in a statement six suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the attack.
