The high-profile case against Brian Mwenda was on Thursday, May 22, adjourned after his lawyer, Counsel Njeru, fell ill, halting proceedings at the Milimani Magistrates Court.
Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina announced the postponement, stating, “The matter cannot proceed without the accused’s counsel; hence, we will push it to further dates.”
Mwenda is facing multiple charges, including forgery and identity theft, for allegedly posing as a licensed advocate around October 18, 2023.
Despite lacking any formal legal qualifications, Mwenda is said to have represented clients in court—including former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga—and reportedly claimed to have won 26 cases.
These claims have been met with skepticism from legal professionals and authorities.
After brief consultations between the prosecution and the defence, Magistrate Onyina rescheduled the hearings to the next available dates: June 23, July 3, and July 7.
The case continues to attract public attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and the unusual circumstances surrounding Mwenda’s alleged impersonation.
