Crime scene

A 20-year-old man was dramatically arrested after he murdered his father and set his body on fire in Nyamusi village, Nyamira County.

The house was also partially damaged in the incident, police and witnesses said.

The incident happened on May 17, 2025, evening at Orwaki village’s Nyakenimo location.

Police said they found the body of Julius Ouru Stima, 62, partially burnt in his house after he had been murdered following a confrontation.

The deceased had a quarrel with his 20-year-old son over a woman believed to be his wife.

The son attacked his father with a son flooring him. The man sustained injuries to the head.

He then dragged the body to the house, where he set it on fire using a mattress.

Villagers rushed to the scene, but it was too late. He had died.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect as they moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The police said they are looking for the man’s wife as part of the probe into the incident.

In Narok’s Ololunga area, a suspect was arrested after his friend, one Philemon Kirui Mutai, who was missing since May 15, was found dead with his body dismembered two days later.

His body was found about 100 meters away from his friend’s house, who was the main suspect in the murder.

His parents and friends had been concerned about his missing and decided to check at the home where they found some bloodstains spattered on the doorframe, window, and the walls.

They arrested the suspect and recovered a blood-stained panga with a wooden handle and one blood-stained wooden stick.

They escorted him to Nkoben police post, where police went back with the group to the scene and, upon further search, a body was discovered about 100 meters from the house of the suspect, stashed in a nylon sack.

It was further discovered that the body was dismembered into two, and the upper body was missing.

Efforts to recover the upper body were futile. The body trunk was identified by the family members and villagers as the body of the earlier reported missing person, namely Philemon Kirui Mutai, aged 27.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending a search for the other missing parts.

Police are investigating the motive. Tension mounted in the village amid fears of retaliation.
