Every registered taxpayer with a Personal Identification
Number (PIN) issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is required to file
tax returns annually.
To file returns, registered taxpayers are required to follow certain steps to facilitate the activity.
For a smooth application process, applicants should have access to a stable internet connection, KRA PIN (Personal
identification number), iTax Login Credentials (PIN and Password) and P9 form.
The first step is opening a preferred browser and visiting the
KRA iTax portal,itax.kra.go.ke.
Log in to your account by entering your KRA pin and your password. Proceed to the Returns menu and click on Returns, then select File returns and
choose Income Tax-Resident Individual.
The next step is confirming your KRA PIN and the Return
period, then select the employment income choice and click proceed.
You are required to fill sections marked with an asterisk
(*) in the next step as per your P9
form, then cross-check your Pay As You Earn (PAYE) deduction details, insurance relief, mortgage and any
other allowances that you might have.
After verifying all the details, click on submit, and a
confirmation message and acknowledgement number will appear stating ‘ Return Receipt Generated’.
To access the document, click on the download link to save
your receipt.
An email will also be sent to you on the same.
For a smooth filing
experience, ensure you have all the necessary details and documents ready before
starting the process and enable macros
in the downloaded Excel template to validate and zip your file without issues.
