Security officers in Nairobi have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of masquerading as a police officer.

The suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by undercover teams from Njiru and Kayole.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers launched a coordinated crackdown in the areas of Nyama Villa, Soweto, and Umoja Three–Kwa Maji, leading to the arrest.

Two other accomplices were also nabbed in the operation.

Following the arrest, the suspect led the officers to his residence, where they recovered assorted police uniforms and other government property.

The suspect is alleged to have been impersonating police officers and extorting money from the public in the area.

Detectives are now seeking to establish the source of the uniforms and whether there are any serving officers who may have been involved.

Investigators also aim to determine whether the suspects are linked to a string of robberies and other criminal activities reported in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

Police say the three suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The recovered items have been documented and secured as exhibits.

The arrest has shed new light on the growing concerns over rising crime in the Eastlands area, where residents have recently raised alarms over a surge in robberies, muggings, and home invasions.

The presence of police uniforms and government-issued items among the recovered evidence has heightened fears that such crimes may be more organised than previously thought.

Authorities are now intensifying investigations to determine whether the trio is part of a wider criminal network operating in Eastlands and beyond.
